Dolcetto d’Alba

In his lifetime, the late Bruno Giacosa earned his place on the podium of the greatest Italian winemakers, particularly in his native Piedmont. His eight decade career in wine began when young Bruno began gathering the very best grapes from his family's Barbaresco negoce operation (against in father's will) and began bottling his own wine in the early 1960s. 

1964, he went full tilt into his vision, producing the first ever single-vineyard Barbaresco—Vigna Santo Stefano—the world had seen. Angelo Gaja, who is often credited with the invention of the Barbaresco Crus was still a few years away from producing a single-vineyard bottling. 

Today the estate is led by Bruno's daughter, Bruna, but the annual release of the domaine's wines continues to constitute a real event. 

Amongst the red wines produced in Piedmont, Dolcetto has a special place. While the famed Barolos and Barbarescos made from Nebbiolo generally need the accompaniment of food to be fully enjoyed, Dolcetto's fruit-forward approachability and mild tannins make it a favorite everyday wine for the Piedmontese.

Giacosa's Dolcetto d'Alba bursts with ripe cherry and raspberries, with a subtle background of tobacco and star-anise.

Can be enjoyed slightly chilled.
