Sandwiched by mountain ranges (the Pyrenees, Alps, and Vosges) and seas (the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and North), with just about any and all types of climates and soils in between, France, and it's people's obsession with food and wine built the foundation upon which all fine wine is built. The Burgundian monks showed the world how site location and soil affect wine, the Provençal its simple pleasures, the Bordelaise its economics, the Champenois its euphoria.... France is ground-zero for the obsession of wine.
