Like Riesling, Loire Valley native Chenin Blanc is incredibly versatile, with an almost vibration-inducing acidity. It can be found in a variety of styles ranging from waxed-stoney, bone-dry wines in Savennières to luscious, honeyed versions in Bonnezeaux, and has been known to drink well at 100 years and beyond. And while the Loire Valley may be the grape's ancestral home, in South Africa, Chenin has blossomed into a whole new creature, now accounting for one-third of all plantings in the country.
