One red to rule them all....
The most widely-planted grape variety on earth, Cabernet Sauvignon came into being as a spontaneous cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, likely in Bordeaux or possibly the Loire Valley, but it was in the Left Bank of Bordeaux that it established its reputation on the backs of legendary Château such as Margaux, Lafite, Latour, Lynch-Bages, and Cos d'Estournel. It didn't take long for the wine to be carried to new homes in the far corners of the world: Australia, Italy, Chile, South Africa, as well as becoming the undisputed King of California.
