Nothing says Italy like Sangiovese. Best known as the red wine of Tuscany, its name is derived from the Latin Sanguis Jovis, or "The blood of Jupiter," and it is the most widely planting variety in the entire country. Historically, the dominant force in a great many blended wine styles, increasingly however, it is being crafted as a single-varietal wine. Full of cherries, strawberries, and flower petals, with a bitter coffee-like edge, you can find excellent bottling ranging from humble table wines all the way up to world-class Brunellos.
