Sauvignon Blanc is a variety that more than just about any other, rides a roller-coaster of popularity. One year it's in everyone's glass, the next it's overstayed its welcome, only to return again the following year. I think the reason for this is that most of us, deep down, have an affinity for this variety—with its crisp, green character and gorgeously refreshing fruits—even when we don't want to admit it. Sauvignon Blanc can be wildly expressive in some case (here's looking at you New Zealand) or beautifully reserved in others. It can be blended or single-varietal; complex and layered, or porch-poundingly-easy-drinking. There's a version for everyone.
