Rheinhessen Chardonnay

A wild-fermented Chardonnay that was grown in the Goldberg, Honigberg and Eselspfad and fermented in barrique and tonneaux, with about 30% new wood. An excellent example of the new wave of Chardonnays finding a home in Germany. This wine is a journey through several distinct style of Chardonnay, all of which find balance and harmony here: reduction, oak, malolactic fermentation.

Sophisticated, the wine shows struck match (but not too much), oak spice, cream, candied lemon, and wet stone.

The Knewitz family has been making wine in Appenheim since the 19th century, and over time, this small estate grew to the 25 hectares is occupies today in the Rheinhessen villages of Appenheim, Gau-Algesheim, and Nider-Hilbersheim. Tobias now helms the Domaine, along with his wife Corina and brother Björn. Their tireless work, concentrating on producing wines of the highest possible quality led to an invitation to join the VDP in 2022.

Knewitz produces exceptional quality wines from Silvaner, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and the most important grape variety in the Rheinhessen: Riesling. Village wines (Ortswein) are produced from each village along with a series of excellent single vineyard Lagenwein from various single vineyards.
