Swartland 'Palladius' White Blend

Palladius is a blend of 13 varieties from 17 vineyards, and while the blend changes year to year, the wine is always Chenin Blanc-based. The 2023 vintage includes Grenache Blanc, Clairette Blache, Viognier, Verdelho, Roussanne, Marsanne, Semillon Gris, Semillon Blanc, Palomino, Colombard, Grillo, and Assyrtiko. The wine was wild fermented in clay amphorae and concrete egg, where the wine was allowed to stay and mature for twelve months before being racked and moved into large, spent oak containers for an additional twelve months of maturation.

The 2023 vintage displays lime zest, green apple, sea spray, and lanolin, with zippy acidity and an exceptionally long, evolving finish.

Eben Sadie is considered one of the great visionaries and preservationists among South African winemakers. He is outspoken about his obsession with terroir and making sure the Swartland region is recognized as a place to make exceptional, authentic and highly coveted wines.

He founded Sadie Family Wines in 1999, after establishing his career in both South Africa and wineries across the world and released his first vintage of Columella in 2000. He was one of the first to focus on creating wines that express their area, or a single vineyard, rather than blending extensively across regions which was unconventional at the time.
