The most famed of all Provençal winemakers, Domaine Tempier's story might be considered mythic if it were not true.

When Lucie “Lulu” Tempier married Lucien Peyraud in 1936, her father gave them Domaine Tempier, an active farm that had been in the family since 1834, near Le Plan du Castellet, just outside the Mediterranean seaport village of Bandol. Upon consuming a very old bottle of wine produced from the farm he now owned, Lucien became obsessed with the neglected grape variety that crafted it: Mourvèdre, going on to not only produce incredible examples of the variety, but to also help the French government establish the AOC of Bandol officially. Lucien will forever be celebrated as the Godfather of Bandol, but also as the man who revived Mourvèdre to its former glory. Raising deep and structured wines of such refinement and longevity has made Domaine Tempier truly a grand cru de Provence.

Domaine Tempier's Bandol Rouge is Mourvèdre dominant, with Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan as well. It is full-bodied, full-bodied, full-bodied, with crushed red berries, smoke, cedar, sweet spice, and the garrigue typical of Provençial reds.
