Venezia Giulia 'Pignoli' Rosso (500mL)

Produced from the rare Pignoli grape, with no added sulphue, this wine sees one month of maceration/fermentation before going through a 5 year maturation in old oak barrels, before further maturating in bottle for at least 6 years!

Stanko Radikon was a maverick in a land of mavericks. The town of Oslavia on a relatively tiny stretch of hills north of the border town of Gorizia in the Isonzo zone of Friuli is home to a number of talented and individualistic wine makers. From Radikon’s home, you can carry a plate of freshly cooked polenta to Edi Kante and Jasko Gravner, two other world-renowned winemakers, and still eat it piping hot.

The history of the Radikon farm began with Stanko's grandfather Franz Mikulus in the early 1900s, but it was in 1948 after the war that Edoardo Radikon relaunched production of the native grape variety par excellence of this area: Ribolla Gialla.

With Stanko, a process was completed (which is now carried out in a formidable way by his son Saša) that would lead the winery to its current set-up: 12 hectares cultivated naturally with the gradual abandonment of any kind of synthetic product in the vineyard and the introduction of artisanal methods in the cellar such as long macerations on the skins and aging for years before release.

These are one-of-a-kind wines from a one-of-a-kind family.
